Kenneth G. Hamby, Q.E.I.April 18, 2008/Baltimore, Md.: Kenneth G. Hamby, Q.E.I., was recently named principal-in-charge of Vertical Transportation Excellence's (VTX) Technical Design Center. VTX, an elevator and escalator consulting firm, serves aviation, education, government, healthcare, commercial, retail, recreation, and public transit clients across the United States.

Hamby is responsible for overseeing the design efforts, drawings, and calculations for elevator and escalator projects. The Tech Center is a valuable resource that enables every division of VTX to effectively meet project requirements and exceed client expectations.

Hamby has 20 years of experience in the design, modernization, maintenance, and project management of new and existing elevator, escalator, and moving walk systems. He develops standards for elevator and escalator designs, provides solutions for upgrading existing installations, conducts in-depth safety inspections to verify conformance with codes and special requirements, and assists clients and designers with the interpretation of official codes.

"Ken brings many years of experience in design and as a consultant to support our tremendous growth at VTX. Our clients are very exacting in their requirements, and Ken will help lead our Tech Center to meet our client requirements as well as our own internal ISO 9001:2000 standards that our clients have come to expect from VTX over the last eight years," said Patrick Welch, president of VTX.

Hamby holds a bachelor of science, cum laude, in mechanical engineering technology from Old Dominion University. He is a registered qualified elevator inspector (Q.E.I.), as well as a registered Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) in Virginia. He is a member of the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities International and serves on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' A17.1 Escalator and Moving Walk Committee.

VTX operates as a division of Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm.
