2, 2004/Phoenix, Ariz.: Anthony J. DeFrancesco,
Q.E.I., was recently named area manager of the Southwest
Region of Vertical Transportation Excellence (VTX), an elevator
and escalator consulting firm, which also specializes in moving
walks and material handling design. The firm serves the aviation,
educational, healthcare, commercial, and public transit markets
across the United States. VTX operates as a division of Gannett
Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management
firm.
Based in VTX’s new Phoenix office, DeFrancesco will be responsible
for providing direct project support on key existing contracts with
the city of Phoenix and the development of new business opportunities
both locally and in the southwestern United States. His responsibilities
include project management, design solution development, contract
document development, detailed installation and equipment inspections,
review of contractual submittals, and evaluation of design change
orders.

our clients he has been supporting,” said Kenneth G. Hamby,
Q.E.I., vice president of VTX. “The experience he has gained
and his ability to quickly adapt to new circumstances will serve
him and VTX well as we continue to develop our efforts in the Southwest.”
DeFrancesco has more than 10 years of experience in design, modernization,
maintenance, and project management for new and existing elevator,
escalator, and moving walk systems, as well as dumbwaiters, material
lifts, and related equipment. He conducts in-depth safety inspections
to assure that code and special requirements are fulfilled, such
as the Americans with Disabilities Act. He also performs construction,
investigative, and acceptance inspections.
Recently, DeFrancesco acted on behalf of the Maryland Transit Administration
(MTA) in the position of resident engineer responsible for overall
contract oversight and administration for the MTA’s Escalator
and Elevator Rehabilitation Programs.
DeFrancesco holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering
from Temple University. He is a registered qualified elevator inspector
(Q.E.I.) and member of the National Association of Elevator Safety
Authorities.
