6, 2004/Baltimore, Md.: Joseph A. McGovern, Q.E.I.,
was recently named Operations Manager of Vertical
Transportation Excellence (VTX), an elevator and escalator consulting
firm, which also specializes in moving walks and material handling
design. The firm services commercial, institutional, and public
transit markets across the United States. VTX operates as a division
of Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction
management firm.
Based in the firm’s Baltimore office, McGovern will be responsible
for project and staff management support for the office and on existing
projects in Maryland. He will also be responsible for continued development
of local business to sustain existing staff and solidify long-term
assignments with key clients.
“Joe has been a valuable asset to our organization since joining
us last year,” said Kenneth G. Hamby, Q.E.I, vice president
of VTX. “His ability to interact positively with our client’s
coupled with the depth of experience in the elevator field has had
positive impacts on the key project we are supporting within the
area.”
McGovern has 25 years of experience in maintenance, modernization,
design, and project management for new and existing elevator, escalator,
and moving walk systems, as well as dumbwaiters, material lifts,
and related equipment. He conducts in-depth safety inspections to
assure that code and special requirements are fulfilled, such as
the American with Disabilities Act. He also performs construction,
investigative, and acceptance inspections.
Currently, McGovern is working on two prestigious projects in Maryland.
McGovern is providing construction management services for 81 escalators
and 33 elevators that serve Metro system riders in Baltimore for
Maryland Transit Administration’s elevator and escalator rehabilitation
work. McGovern is also responsible for the final inspection and acceptance
testing of equipment for quality control, performance, contract,
and code compliance for Maryland Aviation Administration’s
elevators, escalators, and moving walks at Baltimore/Washington International
Airport. These audits insure that contractual requirements are satisfactorily
performed and that the units are ASME A17.1 compliant.
McGovern is a registered qualified elevator inspector (Q.E.I.)
and member of the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities.
